Chappell Roan’s “Red Wine Supernova” describes a developing relationship between the narrator and a thrilling woman. It’s a fun song — the style is reminiscent of her song “Femininomenon,” especially with the backup singers — that also shows off Roan’s impressive singing.
In the video, Roan’s character encounters an alluring magician who teaches her to also be a magician, and they presumably live happily ever after. It’s extremely simple, but I love it for how sweet and silly it is.
Roan’s first lesbian release was “Naked in Manhattan,” a lighthearted song about the narrator’s excitement at the budding of her first lesbian relationship. More recently, Roan’s music video for “Casual” features a dramatic fantasy story about a complicated lesbian relationship. It seems more lesbian-themed music from Roan will be coming our way in the future!
I loved Roan’s interview with the podcast We’re Having Gay Sex; besides sexuality, she talks about her relationship with singing and performance. Her conversation with the hosts is both funny and interesting. Roan has also written a letter to her LGBTQ fans for Billboard Pride.
